Molly's Story

Molly was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor at the tender age of five months. Her tumor then began to rapidly unfold into a multitude of life-altering complications, such as mental retardation, deafness, and overall brain cancer. After being in remission, on & off for 11 years,in October of 1993 Molly was re diagnosed w/ several malignant brain tumors and eventually passed away January 24th 1994. Molly succeeded beyond her doctors’ prognosis, living to the age of eleven.

When Molly first fell ill and was treated at Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia (CHOP), there was a lack of rocking chairs, typically two per wing creating a first come first serve basis. Molly loved the soothing motion of the constant rocking and my mother, Susan treasured the last moments of holding her little girl. William and Susan Calpin vowed, if the opportunity arose, they would bestow comforting rocking chairs for facilities that provide for sick children.

Destinations of Chairs

The Molly Chair has been donated to children facilities such as hospitals and Ronald McDonald Houses in over 15 states, including New England, Mid-Atlantic, Mid-West, and South East Regions. In all, there are over 120 chairs notable.
